Moms Who Made It - Majo & Lorena

Here at Belly Bandit HQ, a women-owned and operated company, we believe in celebrating the success of all women in business! Our “Moms Who Made It” series is our way of honoring Mompreneurs who inspire us every day.

This week we're featuring Majo & Lorena co-founders of Majka. These two mompreneurs turned their 4th-trimester challenges into a company that makes high-quality lactation support products. Their nutritious powders, boosters & bites help address issues such as low milk supply and are just what new moms need to fuel their motherhood journey.

Describe your business philosophy in 5 words or less:

Lorena: “Keep going, don’t give up ”

Majo: “Be focused, follow what you believe is right, and surround yourself with positive and smart people .”

What inspired you to go into business?

Lorena: My own postpartum experience! Being a business owner (I also founded Wela Creative Studio) I went back to work two weeks after having my son, and everyone else thought I was doing great, but my lack of self-care resulted in me feeling extremely depleted and with very low milk supply (I was taking like ten lactation support pills a day haha).  I decided that something needed to be done about it! We wanted to create nourishing, clean, effective products that could help fill in nutritional gaps for moms but also give them the lactation support they need in a quick and easy way.

Majo: My Early Motherhood experience with my first baby. I never expected how tired and depleted I will feel, many days I would find myself crying just because I’m so tired, but I feel guilty to have that time for myself. After the first six months, I started a Baby food Company ( Mini Fresh), and I got the opportunity to meet so many new moms and talking about their postpartum experiences. A little while after that, Lorena had her baby, and she went through a very similar experience. This was when we decided to create a solution to help fulfill mom's nutritional needs in an easy, effective way with quality ingredients.

When did you know you “made it?”

Lorena: As an entrepreneur, I feel like you always want more, I have never felt like “ we have made it” I am always grateful for where we are and motivated to reach the next step. But the first time we gave moms our products to try, and they loved them is when I knew we were going to grow fast!

Majo: I would agree with Lorena on this, I don’t think I felt we made it, we are very motivated to reach the next step and continue to grow. The most exciting time was when we started seeing everyone’s feedback at our first event.

Who is your mentor?

Lorena: My Dad! he has always guided me and supported me. He gives me the best advice and also knows me better than anyone else.

Majo: Mom and Dad, they are both so different, and I continue to learn a lot from them. My dad always told me if you believe in something to go after it. My Mom, she always pushed me to prioritize my tasks and be straightforward!!

What’s your #1 tip for moms interested in starting their own business?

Lorena: Don’t overthink it! If you are interested in starting your business, DO IT! The feeling of “what if” is horrible. Do it and work smart and hard to make it work.

Majo: Don’t be scared to ask for help when you need help!!

What does “me” time mean to you?

Lorena: Since becoming a mom a couple of years ago, me-time means time where I can be alone and think. All-day every day, I get asked questions either at work or at home, so I enjoy being in a quiet room alone reading or meditating.

Majo:  I’m a mom of two, and I constantly run around between work and home. When I get the chance, I enjoy my time by stepping away for a cup Of coffee or going to a workout.

Lorena: “You don’t have to see the whole staircase just take the first step” Martin Luther King Jr

Majo: “Every time you state what you want or believe, you’re the first to hear it. It’s a message to both you and others about what you think is possible. Don’t put a ceiling on yourself.”
