Shapewear Products
What is the difference between the Belly Wraps and the Mother Tucker® Corset?
Our Belly Wraps were designed as post-pregnancy recovery garments with a focus on both comfort and ease of wear since it’s advised to be worn 24/7 (aside from bathing). Our Belly Wraps should be worn for a minimum of the first 6-10 weeks postpartum (most women do wear it longer). With an easy-on/easy-off Velcro® closure that offers 6"-9" of adjustability within each size, your wrap can size down with you and still offer a firm, snug fit. They also feature our Power Compress Core™, the strongest compression available in the Belly Bandit® product line.
The Mother Tucker® Corset was designed as form-fitting shapewear, with 3” of adjustability within each size. It was designed to be worn for shorter lengths of time due it's more structured design. Its 6-hook closure ensures a smooth silhouette, but requires a bit more effort than the Velcro® closure on the wraps. The corset is taller than any of the wraps and its lighter material makes it the choice for wearing under form-fitting clothing.
I didn't recently give birth but I do want to lose some weight. Can I use a Belly Bandit® Belly Wrap?
Belly Bandit® Belly Wraps were designed as a postpartum recovery product, and were not made for weight loss.
That being said, if a Belly Wrap feels good to wear (and helps you feel good about yourself) you can wear one whenever you choose! You will reap the additional benefits of extra back support and improved posture. Studies have shown (and your doctor - or mother – may have mentioned) that when you feel good, you are more likely to be active. And more physical activity is a helpful part of any weight loss plan. Research has also been done on how belly wraps can increase the effectiveness of your workouts, so definitely keep it on during all of that activity!
We’ve also found that a Belly Bandit® Belly Wrap acts like a “reminder” (like wearing a rubber band around your wrist) to be aware of your core and engage those abdominal muscles. You’ll also look slimmer in clothing and might even feel better wearing those shirts that you stuffed away in the back of the closet.
I'm several months postpartum – is it too late to wear a Belly Bandit® Belly Wrap?
The Belly Wrap will be most effective when worn immediately after delivery, for a minimum of 6-10 weeks, although some women prefer to wear it for a longer period of time. (In some cultures, where they have been binding for centuries, women may bind for up to a year!)
If it’s been a number of months since you delivered and you have doubts about wearing a Belly Wrap because you feel you are “too late”, we encourage you to check out our Mother Tucker® compression shapewear line. We have compression tank tops, leggings, and our popular Mother Tucker Corset.
Belly Wraps
What are the differences between the Belly Wraps?
The Original Belly Bandit® Belly Wrap shares the same construction as the Viscose from Bamboo Belly Wrap. The difference is in the material. Where the Original Belly Wrap is uncovered, the Viscose from Bamboo Belly Wrap is covered in a super-soft viscose material. We recommend the Viscose from Bamboo Belly Wrap to C-section moms due to its naturally hypoallergenic and anti-microbial materials.
The B.F.F. stands for ‘Body Formulated Fit,' due to the wraps patented design of six support panels and two compression panels. It is covered in viscose from bamboo fabric and is shorter, 8” compared to the 9” than the Original and Bamboo Belly Wraps. For this reason, we often recommend the B.F.F. for women with a shorter torso.
The Luxe Belly Wrap has a patented corset-inspired design and five levels of targeted compression. It’s our tallest Belly Wrap (11’ in front and 12’ in back) and features body-contouring panels for core and back support. It also has dual closures for maximum adjustability.
For additional information, check out our Wrap Comparison Guide.
When should I start wearing my Belly Bandit® Belly Wrap?
You can start wearing it immediately after you deliver, but please check with your healthcare provider prior to use, especially if you’ve had a C-section. Wearing it soon after delivery allows the product to work while your body still has elevated levels of the relaxin hormone.
We recommend wearing it 24/7 (except for bathing) for 6-10 weeks, although many women choose to wear it longer for additional benefits, such as encouraging proper posture – and helping prevent back pain – during breastfeeding.
If it’s been a number of months since you delivered and you have doubts about wearing a Belly Wrap because you feel you are “too late”, we encourage you to check out our Mother Tucker® compression shapewear line. We have compression leggings and our popular Mother Tucker Corset.
What does the Belly Bandit® Belly Wrap do?
Our Belly Wraps are postpartum products, designed to help you recover after pregnancy and may help shape your belly, waist, and hips; strengthen core muscles; promote mobility; relieve back pain; provide comfort after C-section.
Which Belly Wrap has the most compression?
All of the wraps provide the same level of compression; however, the BFF Belly Wrap has two compression panels, allowing for a more customized fit.
Which Belly Wrap is the softest?
The Belly Bandit® Viscose from Bamboo Belly Wrap wins rave reviews for its softness.
Can I wear a Belly Bandit® Belly Wrap while I'm pregnant?
In a word: No.
In a longer answer: This is a postpartum recovery product that has strong compression, something that is not recommended for use during pregnancy.
If you are looking for support during your pregnancy, try our Upsie Belly®, Belly Boost, or 2-in-1 Bandit.
How quickly will I see a difference after wearing a Belly Wrap? How long will it last?
Every woman is different. Many women report seeing results in the first 5 days and others within the first 2-3 weeks. Please keep in mind that other factors, including diet and breastfeeding, can affect your results.
Looking for some inspiration? Check out our before and after gallery.
As much as we wish they could be, Belly Bandit® Belly Wraps are not magical products. They were designed to assist you in your efforts to return to your pre-pregnancy size. How long the results of those efforts last is based on individual habits, and not something that we can predict or guarantee.
How long should I wear the Belly Wrap? Is 4 weeks enough? 8 weeks? Is 12 weeks too long?
The Belly Wrap will be most effective when worn immediately after delivery, for 6-10 weeks, although some women prefer to wear it for a longer period of time. (In some cultures, where they have been binding for centuries, women may bind for up to a year!)
Wear your Belly Bandit® Belly Wrap day and night, removing it only to shower. The ideal fit should be snug, with constant pressure on the belly, but without any impact on breathing, circulation or discomfort in your ribs. If discomfort occurs, remove and consult your doctor.
Of course, diet and exercise play an integral part when trying to reach your pre-pregnancy size.
Will people see I'm wearing a Belly Bandit® Belly Wrap under my clothing?
Our Belly Wraps were designed to be worn comfortably under all of your clothes; however, it is a strong compression garment that might show through more form-fitting clothing.
Product Recommendations:
Belly Wraps: The Original Belly Wrap has the thinnest profile in the collection.
Shapewear: The Mother Tucker® Corset is incredible thin and form fitting. It’s extremely discreet under clothing, as it is made from a different compressive fabric and has soft boning to comfortably fit around your curves while smoothing your silhouette.
Can I just wear a standard body shaper? Won't that do the same thing?
Belly Bandit® Belly Wraps were designed and created specifically for your body’s postpartum recovery needs. We tried and tested dozens of shapewear garments and girdles, and found that they do not provide the necessary support and level of sustained compression.
Can I sleep in my Belly Bandit® Belly Wrap?
Absolutely! We actually recommended wearing your wrap 24/7 (taking it off only to shower) for 6-10 weeks after delivery.
Can I reuse the Belly Wrap I bought from you for my last pregnancy?
If you would like the exact same outcome as your first experience with the product, we do not recommend reusing your Belly Bandit® Belly Wrap. Anytime a band has been worn for an extended amount of time, it will not have the same effectiveness on your body, as it will be less compressive as it was the first time around. Also, if you washed it several times, it may have lost some elasticity.
Can I wear a used Belly Wrap?
We do not recommend wearing a used Belly Bandit® Belly Wrap from a friend (or – gasp – a stranger!) for two reasons: hygiene and effectiveness. As for effectiveness, a wrap that was worn almost 24/7 for 6-10 weeks will have conformed to another person’s body, altering its efficacy on your own curves. Additionally, depending on how it was cared for, it may have lost elasticity. Lotions, oils and creams may also affect the products materials after a while as well. This is why we also offer a Belly Shield as a companion product.
Can the Belly Bandit® Belly Wraps be used for reasons other than postpartum recovery?
Definitely. Since Belly Bandit® Belly Wraps are adjustable and wear well under clothing, with no complicated zippers or contraptions, they are often the abdominal binders of choice for easing back pain (many customers continue to use theirs for this purpose), as well as for recovery from liposuction, back and abdominal surgeries.
Can I wear my Belly Wrap with the 2-in-1 Bandit™?
Yes you can.
Belly Wraps - Sizing
When and how do I measure my belly?
We recommend that you measure any time after your 8th month for the most accurate sizing. Here are some tips to properly measure your belly:
In the 8th month or After Delivery:
Measure your belly at its widest point, usually at the belly button. In the sizing calculator, select your week of pregnancy and belly measurement. The calculator will generate a recommended size.
Just Prior to Delivery:
Measure your belly at its widest point, usually at the belly button. Subtract 3-5 inches from the measurement. In the sizing calculator, select your week of pregnancy and belly measurement. The calculator will generate a recommended size.
What size Belly Wrap should I get?
Accurate sizing is important, so please don’t guess! Also, do no rely on your pre-pregnancy measurements, as they cannot properly predict the size you will need post-delivery.
In between sizes? We usually recommend sizing down.
I think my Belly Wrap is too small.
If there is more than a 3” gap between the ends of the wrap, you will need a larger size. Order a larger size and return the smaller wrap. (Don’t remove the tags or wear the wrap for too long; we can only accept returns of merchandise that have tags and don’t show any signs of wear.)
However, if the ends just touch (or even barely touch), you actually have the size you need. As your body recovers and returns to its pre-pregnancy state, you will gradually tighten the wrap, using more and more of the Velcro® closure.
If the ends of the wrap are 1-2.5 inches shy of closing, try this:
• Lie on a flat surface with the band beneath you
• Try closing it (if you need help, ask your partner, a friend, the dog walker)
• If you find the band to be too tight, try and wear it for a few hours each day until you begin to shrink into the size.
• The Belly Bandit® should fit snug with constant pressure on the belly, but without any impact on breathing, circulation or discomfort in your ribs. If discomfort occurs, remove immediately and consult your doctor.
If you just delivered and it's tough to close, wait a day or two and try again.
Please watch our sizing video to verify you sized yourself correctly
Can I use my pre-pregnancy measurements?
Since you will be wearing your wrap post-delivery, and there is an extreme range of body and belly sizes, pre-pregnancy measurements won’t be helpful in predicting your post-delivery needs.
To find your size using your current measurements, visit our sizing calculator.
Will I need two Belly Wraps?
Customers have purchased two bands for different reasons:
Having a Spare
Since our Belly Wraps need to air dry, which can take up to 12 hours, many customers have opted to purchase a second wrap to use while one wrap dries.
Sizing
Depending on how quickly your body recovers, it is possible that you’ll need a smaller band before the end of the 10 week period. (Or if you would like to wear one for longer.)
If you are ready to buy a smaller band, check out our Upcycle Program. You'll receive a discount on a new band when sending back your used one.
I am having twins do I measure differently?
In most cases, you won’t need to measure differently. Please visit our sizing calculator.
However, if you are really concerned that your post-delivery body will be drastically different (we know that carrying twins can be much different than carrying one baby), feel free to contact us right after delivery to ensure the most accurate size.
Is there a correct place to adhere the Velcro® closure on the Belly Wraps?
This is all about preference.
We prefer a side closure because it’s less conspicuous and is usually the best way to achieve a tight closure. It also seems to work best in smoothing a postpartum belly.
But if you prefer a center closure, go for it!
I think my Belly Wrap is too big.
If you can close the wrap and it surpasses the Velcro® closure, it is too big. Order a smaller size and return the larger wrap.
(Don’t remove the tags or wear the wrap for too long; we can only accept returns of merchandise that have tags and don’t show any signs of wear.)
It's uncomfortable to sit in my Belly Wrap. Am I wearing it correctly?
Before sitting, try pulling the wrap lower on the body. Also, having the closure on the side (instead of the center) which may easy any discomfort while sitting.
Belly Wraps - Care
I see creases and waves in my Belly Bandit® Belly Wrap - is this normal?
Yes, creases are normal. The Belly Wrap conforms to your body, making it easier for you to move comfortably and perform your daily activities. Much like a Band-Aid®, the appearance of your wrap will change due to normal wear, so you can expect to see creases and waviness on the binding of the wrap. This will not affect the job of your wrap!
Please follow care instructions to help maintain the structure of the wrap.
How do I wash my Belly Bandit® Belly Wrap?
Your Belly Bandit® Belly Wrap should be hand washed in cold water with mild soap. Don’t use bleach or softeners. Rinse well, and resist the urge to twist or wring it, since that could affect its elasticity and compressive strength. Lie flat and air dry. Note that it can take up to 12 hours to dry.
If you can’t bear the thought of an unwrapped belly for 12 hours, consider purchasing a second wrap, or our recommended companion piece, the Belly Shield (which can act as a barrier so you can wash your Belly Wrap less often.)
Belly Bandit® Belly Wrap Care Recap: Yes: Cold water, mild soap, air dry No: Hot water, bleach, softeners, gas or electric dryers, and don’t twist or wring it
Can I wear my Belly Wrap to exercise?
Absolutely. We recommend wearing it all day and night- only removing it when taking a shower/bath. So if a trip to the gym is on your schedule, keep that wrap on! In fact, studies have shown that abdominal wraps can increase the effectiveness of your core exercises.
Only begin your exercise regimen once your doctor clears you for activity.
C-Section Recovery
Which product is best for C-sections?
We recommend for those recovering from a C-section:
Viscose from Bamboo Belly Wrap
This wrap is super-soft for placement against your incision.
Which Belly Wrap is the best for C-Sections?
If you are looking for a soft material against your incision, we recommend the Viscose from Bamboo Belly Wrap or the Shortie Belly Wrap
