How People Are Wearing
The good: This product works great. It provides the support I want, and the online size calculator was spot-on. I'm 40 inches around at 34 weeks, and a medium fits just right. The upsie belly is not a miracle worker, so don't expect wonders. My back and hips definitely still hurt, but less than before. The hip stabilization it provides makes me feel less unsteady and much safer going up and down the subway stairs, which is a huge win. Pregnant ladies still have to commute, buy groceries, run errands, etc. and the ability to move more independently definitely helps.
The bad: Poor velcro placement makes this really uncomfortable to wear. The scratchy male part of the velcro faces your skin, and is the exact same width as the female part, so if you're even a millimeter off when fastening it, your skin is not protected from it. It's extremely painful against an already itchy pregnant belly, and if you're not careful you'll end up with cuts/scrapes in the area. You could wear a full slip or tank top under your clothes, and wear the upsie belly between the layers, but that's only practical for women who are pregnant in colder weather. During the summer, it's not only uncomfortable, but potentially risky to add unnecessary layers and risk overheating. And to be honest, it's not attractive enough to wear over your clothing, especially in the workplace. It would be so easy to for them to just make the velcro strip a couple inches shorter, which in my mind, makes this a pretty inexcusable design flaw. I can't see over my belly, so in case it was just me being incompetent, I asked my husband to try fastening it in such a way that the rough part of the velcro wouldn't touch me. He struggled with it for a while but said it's impossible. In my opinion, a product this expensive shouldn't have such obvious problems. I really regret spending the money.
I have pretty severe sjd pain this pregnancy and this wrap is wonderful at helping keep my hips in place so they hurt a bit less...that being said do yourself a favor and indulge in the ice/hot gel pack from belly bandit to wear in the pocket in the back it’s fits a wide area and it makes the wrap even better along with excellent relief!
I’ve only had this for about a week or so but it seems to be helping with both back and hip pain I’ve been having (currently 37 weeks, baby has dropped and my hips and pelvis were screaming)! I also think it’s helping with the occasional round ligament spasm. I certainly notice a difference if I haven’t been wearing it and then put it on in the middle of the day. It can get a little warm, which would be my only complaint, but otherwise it’s great. Also, Belly Bandit was great with their customer service response when the size I ordered didn’t fit. They honored the sale price I paid for the new one (even though the sale was over) and were very quick to get me the replacement.
