Here at Belly Bandit HQ, a women-owned and operated company, we believe in celebrating the success of all women in business! Our “Moms Who Made It” series is our way of honoring Mompreneurs who inspire us every day.
This week we're thrilled to be featuring Lisa Pinnell, founder of Binxy Baby. Lisa created the Binxy Baby® Shopping Cart Hammock, ™ a patented design that quickly and easily clips onto most carts, allowing plenty of room for groceries, while keeping baby safe and comfortable! And the best part, it exceeds all safety standards and when your shopping trip is over, it rolls up to fit in your diaper bag - now that's genius!
Describe your business philosophy in 5 words:
Work smart and serve hard.
What inspired you to start your business?
Trying to grocery shop with a newborn and toddler turned me into a sweaty mess every. single. time. Wow, I still get anxious thinking back to those early days with two kids completely melting in the middle of the produce aisle. Fun times. Anyways, all I wanted was a safe and comfortable place for my newborn to lounge while still allowing room for my toddler and groceries. I seriously couldn’t find anything that worked for us. So, I kinda just decided one day that I was going to be the one to figure this thing out. Late night nursing sessions turned into lots of note making and daydreaming. And years, yes years later, I shared a few prototypes with friends and posted a few pictures online, and with the help of social media, the Binxy Baby Shopping Cart Hammock was born. It took me 5 years of tinkering to get it right.
When did you know you, “made it?”
I am definitely not there yet, but I pinch myself every time I see a cute little baby using one of our Shopping Cart Hammocks in a store.
Who is your mentor?
Oh gosh, there are so many incredible women out there that I look up to. Susan Petersen, of Freshly Picked doesn’t know she’s my mentor, but she’s someone I’ve always admired. She was a few years ahead of me in her business, and I loved watching her grow from almost nothing, into an incredible, world-wide brand.
What's your #1 tip for moms interested in starting their own business
Don’t get overwhelmed by the 500 steps to get to the finish line. Work on your business at least a few minutes every day, and watch as your dreams become reality.
What does “me” time mean to you?
An afternoon nap. Ahh, sounds dreamy.
What‘s on your bedside table?
I’ve got my mix of parenting, faith, and business books all going at once. I have Shepherding a Child’s Heart, Soul Keeping, and Tools of the Titans.
