Moms Who Made It - Christine Deehring

Here at Belly Bandit HQ, a women-owned and operated company, we believe in celebrating the success of all women in business! Our “Moms Who Made It” series is our way of honoring Mompreneurs who inspire us every day.

This week we are thrilled to be featuring Christine Deehring, the amazing mom behind Bump Boxes.  Christine developed Bump Boxes after the birth of her daughter as a way to take the guesswork out of choosing the best and safest pregnancy /baby products. Her passion resulted in a subscription plan, tailored to due dates, that delivers healthy pregnancy, mom and baby products straight to your door.  Now that's a special delivery!

Describe your business philosophy:

Be Driven. Use Data.  Hustle.

What inspired you to go into business?

My daughter was my inspiration to start Bump Boxes. When I first saw that positive pregnancy test with Ainsley, I cried out of excitement…then had an “oh shit” moment! I realized my everyday decisions, now impact someone else, and that’s crazy to think about. I went through a lifestyle shift and changed everything, I wanted her to have the best possible start. Through researching our everyday cosmetics and food choices, I found they contain endocrine disrupting chemicals that can affect your hormones and your developing baby. The scary part?  No one was talking about it! There were literally 200 different body washes to choose from at target and I was completely overwhelmed. There isn’t a safe place to get these products and it caused a ton of stress….that’s when the idea was born!  I really wanted to make an impact and help moms, this is what I’m most passionate about.

Secondly, I wanted to prove to my daughter I could do something bigger than myself and have an impact. I was sitting in a cubicle farm at a fortune 500 company as a CPA, asking for more opportunity and wasn't getting anywhere. I started feeling sorry for myself and asked myself the question “would your daughter be proud of you”, "would you want Ainsley to stay or take a risk"?   I’ve always been a fighter. I kicked the victim mentality and stopped making excuses. I was going to create my own opportunity!

When did you know you, “made it?”

Oh, we're just getting started :-) Our mission is to make Mom's life easier, and we won't stop until we completely take over the Mom space through multiple initiatives! In 3 short years, we have become the largest pregnancy subscription service in the country. One of our core values is Mom's Come First, it's what we're most passionate about, and it's why we focus our efforts on making a connection with our Moms. Our values are the reason we've scaled so incredibly fast, because we never lose site of why we started in the first place.

Who is your mentor?

SO many mentors, mainly my husband, my parents/siblings, our Bump Boxes family, the list goes on!  If your goal is to run a 5 minute mile, you can't run with a pack of 12 minute mile people and think you'll get there.  Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you, who are willing to push you and won't listen to your excuses.

What’s your #1 tip for moms interested in starting their own business?

Get comfortable with being uncomfortable, it's the only way you and your company grow. There will be plenty of barriers that pop up in your startup journey, but never forget the majority of them are perceived...break through it and hustle your ass off, you'll be just fine!

What does “me” time mean to you?

Having consistent "Me Time" is super important! I've worked it into my daily routine. In the morning, I wake up early (before anyone else gets up!) and workout, read, and take a few minutes to think about how grateful I am for everything in my life. It starts the day off on the right foot, and no matter how crazy my day gets, it's the one thing that is always consistent and never changes...gets me in the right mindset to win the day.
