Ready, Set Go!: What inspired you to start your business?

My kids. I want my kids to make smarter choices in the products they choose and the food they eat. They are my most honest critics. They Just let you have it. When it’s good it’s ‘awesome’, when it’s not, well then, they’ll let you know.

Moms Who Made It:When did you know you, “made it?”

My husband laughs at me. I started my business after I had taken a year off to give birth to my third child. One day I Googled my name, then I Googled my brother’s name, etc. I did not exist. I worked day and night to help raise the kids, and it was so disheartening to go to a party, and for everyone to ask me, what my husband did for a living. The ones that were politically correct would say, “ do you work outside of the home? “ I wanted to Google my name and to see that I existed in the outside world.

Helpline: Who is your mentor?

I have many but I would say the two mentors I have had for a long time are the CEO of Numi Tea, Ahmed Rahim and the Numi Tea Creative Director, Reem Rahim. They are like my brother and sister as well as mentors.

What’s your #1 tip for moms interested in starting their own business?

Research Research Research and don’t be a know it all. My biggest asset to this day, is saying I don’t know what I don’t know, and I ask everyone for their advice and input. I can then apply their advice to my needs.

Me, me, me: What does “me” time mean to you?

Daily Method, I love going to a class that takes my mind off everyday things. We forget to breathe and to take care of own our bodies and souls.
